In 1945 Branch Rickey, the executive of the Brooklyn Dodgers baseball team, decides that it is time to change some things in his favourite game. He tells his closest co-workers that he’s going to take a black player. Although nobody likes this idea, Ricky stands his ground and soon finds a suitable candidate, a guy named Jackie Robinson. Poor Jackie has to be prepared for any insults and provocations by his fellow players as well as racist baseball fans.
