Traditionally, Sumo is exclusively practiced by men. Women are not even allowed to step into the dohyo, the ‘holy ring’. 20-year-old Rio Hasegawa was the first female wrestler to be allowed to join Tokyo’s Keio University Sumo Club. One day she wants to become a world champion.
