Trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire is a forward-thinking musician with a bent toward atmospheric post-bop. After early encounters with saxophonists Joe Henderson and Steve Coleman, Akinmusire studied with Lew Soloff and Terence Blanchard Akinmusire has appeared as a sideman with Steve Coleman, Vijay Iyer, Josh Roseman, Esperanza Spalding a.o. In 2007 Akinmusire won the Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition and the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition. He was named Rising Star Jazz Artist and Rising Star Trumpet in Down Beat Magazine's 2011 Critics Poll, graduating to Trumpet Player of the Year in 2012. He was awarded Germany's ECHO Award as Instrumentalist of the Year. He released his debut album, 'Prelude to Cora' in 2008.
