        The Sinis protected marine area and the Island of Mal di Ventre is the subject of this documentary that takes place in the Eastern part of the Island of Sardinia. In the company of Angelo, a Sardinian diving instructor we go to discover the underwater flora and fauna of the waters around the Island of Mal di Ventre, a place of splendid tropical colors. We then dive to visit the shipwreck of the "Vaporetto": a ferryboat that went down in the Second World War, which is quite well conserved and is home to various types of fish like the groupers and also to sea slugs. We then go to visit the Cabras pool and watch the traditional fishing methods of the flat-headed mullet, a species from which can be extracted the famous "Sardinian Gold".

        MAFIA, THE AUTHENTIC HEART OF AFRICA. Tanzania, the Mafia archipelago, 130 km south from Dar Es Salaam. After a short visit to the Island of Zanzibar, we head out to discover the Island of Mafia where, from 1995, 822 kilometers of coast line and lagoons have become a protected Marine Park. We visit this wonderful Marine Park by exploring the eco-system of the mangroves, the population that lives along the coast and the village of Utende. Local daily routines and typical recipes are all well mixed in with the rare tourist structures that have been built here. That takes us to meet and get to know Marco, an authentic Italian and the owner of a very comfortable and fascinating eco-lodge, and who is dedicated to safeguarding the environment and also the local population.

        IN TANZANIA, THE TRUE ISLAND. A journey to the Mafia archipelago, in Tanzania, at 130 km south from Dar Es Salaam. A land where African nostalgia has taken over Mario, a diving instructor and local businessman. He takes us to discover the rich sea-beds of Mafia Island, which is now a protected Marine Park. The same kind of nostalgia also seems to have taken over local people too, and this is the case of a local sailor, Mohammed, that with his small boat, that he saved from a fire, sails between the Islands of Mafia and Chole. In order to feel the wind in his face and also for the simple pleasure of sailing he takes tourists from one island to another. So he is the one to guide us around the uncontaminated island of Chole. He shows us the ruins that date back to Persian and German pre-colonial days, we meet his family who are busy building a roof, we see them cooking, we visit his house and the local school and also a small boat yard where local boats are made.

        In Southern Saudi Arabia, at the heart of the mountain range of Tihama, which separates the Red Sea from the Rub Al khalî desert, live the Enflowered-men.         WATERFORD & BARROW ESTUARY. Series 8 of Distant Shores follows hosts, Paul and Sheryl Shard, on a voyage aboard their 49-foot sailboat, Distant Shores II, from the south coast of England to the Republic of Ireland where they sail to ports along the Irish Sea as they head north to Northern Ireland and Belfast where the ship Titanic was built. Next they sail to Scotland where they transit through the Crinan and Caledonian Canals, then explore the remote islands of Shetland, before crossing the notorious North Sea to the west coast of Norway. In Norway they explore the attractions in major towns as well as small fishing ports and sail down the world's longest fjord. They cross the North Sea once again to visit the Orkney Islands and Outer Hebrides of Scotland before making a passage south to the Brittany coast of France. Paul and Sheryl set sail from Chichester Harbour in England and sail to Waterford on the southeast coast of the Republic of Ireland where they learn about the production of crystal before sailing to New Ross to visit the Dunbrody emmigrant ship and join a local boater for a trip down the Barrow River, one of Ireland's inland waterways.
