" There are now about 1 million OFW’s (Overseas Filipino Workers) and 11 million overseas Filipinos worldwide. "People, it seems, are the Philippines best export. ". But, of late, there are signs that the Philippines’ overdependence on remittances has created long-term cracks in the social fabric and an economy that is fragile in the face of a global crisis.

A DIVERS' PARADISE. In open sea, along the Venezuelan coastline, we fly over the biggest coral atoll of the Caribbean Sea to then dive into these beautiful waters: this is the archipelago of Los Roques, surrounded by an immense coral reef that protects it from the Atlantic waves and makes it an ideal place for divers. We make our base in Gran Roque, the biggest and highest island of the archipelago and we dive into the crystal clear waters of the Los Roques National Park. Forests of coral and sea fans or gorgonian are the romantic frame for a group of box fish, busy with their courtship dances, but it is the fascination of the queen of the seas, a Manta Ray that steal the underwater scene here on Los Roques. Out of the water we sail in and around the island channels that are bordered by mangrove forests, which are full of marine life, such as the Giant Caribbean Star Fish.

THE ROUTE TO LOS ROQUES. Our chosen route is the coral archipelago of Los Roques, our sail boat is pushed forward by the trade winds as we go to explore the small "cayos" in the region. The route chosen by our expert Capitan Raul and his eccentric skipper Mar, means that we will make our first stop at Carenero Island, a place so full of wonderful colours. But it is Cayos de Agua that steals our hearts: the light that surrounds this small strip of sand which is inhabited only by birds, makes this one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. As we weigh anchor, we sail to Dos Mosquises, headquarters of the Fundacion Cientifica los Roques, where an expert marine biologist shows us the different species of marine turtle. Here the Fundacion has chosen to guard and protect these marine animals, breeding them in captivity until they are one year old, then releasing them into the sea.

ETHIOPIA. With the label of "cradle of humanity", Ethiopia is adorned with a legendary aura... It is here that the man was born, here he would have his first steps to conquer the world. Christophe Cousin takes its movement... In "Nomads Land in Ethiopia," he crosses the South to the North because it is on the road, always lively, always alive that still today reveals the true face of the "men in the face burned "as they are called Ethiopians... The road is the best way to tell this country nomadic by nature. Ethiopia There are thousands of pilgrims, nomads by whole tribes, caravans, men, gold, dust, camels, mules and salt... In this journey which is more like an adventure, he encounters Gabra, an ethnic group in the border with Kenya which takes refreshment water in wells that were dug into the rock there for centuries and staying in their camp... he then joined the border with Sudan, to the great gold rush that has never known the country. Deep in the forest, holes that can reach 40 meters deep have the smell of death. Then he joined the pilgrims to the monastery of Debre Damo north and ends its journey in the heart of Dallol meaning "disintegrated" in language Afar... Borrowing this time not the camel and the men who run after the spice of life...

THE CORAL THEATRE. Coral reefs are reminiscent of the tower of Babel. Dating back over 200 million years ago, their structure seems part of a legend. All at once place of habitat, food supplies and mutual aid, corals form giant constructions to be observed from every angle. HAZARDS OF THE SEA. Today still, the sea induces fear. In some people’s imagination, it is inhabited by sea monsters straight out of the depths. However, risk isn’t always where one would expect it. A prominent jaw is not systematically a threat and the most dangerous species often remain undercover. Danger from the human standpoint is often a strategy of defense for the sea creatures. The ocean has its own risks but, as often in nature, observation greatly helps to avoid them.

SHANGHAI'S TWO-CHILDREN POLICY. China, with a population of 1. 3 billion, would hardly be in need of a baby boom. However, Shanghai paints a starkly different picture. Ageing faster than Japan, a third of its people could be over 60 years ld in just 10 years time. Although already China's most populous city, Shanghai is in need of more babies. In a bid to solve the problem of acute labour shortages and strains on medical and welfare systems in the near future, there has been a gradual rollback of the one-child policy. Couples who meet the strict criteria are allowed t have a second child. But are they able t afford the various cots that come with having a second child? The rat race in Shanghai already begins at the age of a toddler. With MBA programs for juniors, young children are prematurely thrown into the adulthood. With a schedule as packed as an adult's, no room is left for a healthy childhood. Having over 40 branches of FasTracKids schools in Shanghai alone, it is clearly a reflection of the hunger for an early head start for children. Brought up in a generation that adhered strictly to the one child policy, will the mindset of its people change? Will parents be able to cope with the pressures accompanied with a second child? Is this an effective solution to solving Shanghai's problems?

FLYING OVER THE WATERWAYS (VENEZUELA). On board of the strangest Cessna in the whole of Venezuela. Vittorio, a man who feels that his personal space is more in the air rather than on the round, is taking us from the North to the South, leaving from Gran Roque Island. We first fly over the Los Roques archipelago, to then land on a runway made of sand, on the island of La Tortuga, a long strip of land and sand that is inhabited only by a few fishermen. Flying again we follow the waterways of this region and re-fuel in Ciudad Bolivar, a city on the banks of the great Orinoco river, we then fly over the vast and savage territory of the Gran Sabana dominated by the Tepuy and the famous Canaima waterfall, until we reach our final destination: The Salto Angel, the highest waterfall in the world, which is named after it’s discoverer, the pilot Jimmy Angel, the idol of our friend Vittorio.

BETWEEN THE SACRED AND THE PROFANE (CUBA). Our journey to Cuba begins in its capital city Havana, a city of architecture and sea. The sea that Ernest Hemingway loved so much, and the city that he fell in love with as soon as he saw it, so much so he decided to make his home here, today it is a museum that must be visited in his honour. A deep and profound union between men and the sea can be found in the Santeria and in Yemaya, the Dea madre of the Yoruba and of all of the Orisha, the guardian spirits of Cuba. It is the Babbalao, the person that represents the highest order of priesthood in the Santeria, who will explain to us Yemayá and the relationship that the Cubans have with the sea and underwater diving. To continue our journey between the sacred and the profane, we go along the southern coast of Cuba, to the deep waters of the Cenotes, a place that seems to be suspended between a dream and reality, where Yemayá, goddess of the sea, seems to accompany Ochun, the goddess of the freshwater rivers.
