So in the company of an expert diver Noel and a biologist Andrea, we meet the two principle species of shark that populate these waters: the silk sharks, Noel’s faithful playmates and the most feared, the Caribbean reef shark. Noel takes us underwater water scuba-diving with Andrea in apnoea: they both show us that these sharks are not dangerous.

With its strange dark and clear light plays, we go underwater into the Neptune Caves, where the walls of the caves are covered with magnificent branches of red coral surrounded by cnidarians and sponges. ISLE OF MAN
The Isle of Man sits at the heart of the Irish Sea, easily overlooked but of great importance to the many species of birds, mammals and fish that call its hills, glens and seas home. From the huge and majestic Basking Sharks that feed in the plankton rich waters every summer, to the tiny wrens nesting in the many stone walls that criss-cross the landscape, this small Island is a sanctuary for wildlife. Across the open moorland you might glimpse a hen harrier glide gracefully in search of its prey or see hares resplendent in their white winter coats. In the spring and summer the craggy cliffs become temporary high-rise housing for numerous colonies of seabirds such as guillemots, razorbills and fulmars while the far-wandering Manx Shearwater makes use of abandoned burrows to raise their young. The strikingly marked chough is another denizen of the wilder fringes of Mann where it has thrived and flocks in greater numbers than just about anywhere else in the British Isles. Of all the wildlife you might encounter red necked wallabies are certainly the least expected. A small population established from escaped captive animals has readily made the curraghs wetlands their home and add to the rich tapestry of life on the island. Join local naturalist Chris Sharpe for a year-round visit to this beautiful haven: A Natural World in miniature.
PLANT SECRETS - (2)
To most of us, plants make up a familiar background decoration, albeit a beautiful one, but we don't really pay them that much attention, nor do we know much that about them. This collection is an invitation to discover more about four common plants and their astonishing properties. Scientists, farmers, economists and sociologists will help us to view the Nettle, the Arabis, the Yew and the Lotus in a different light, as they reveal the plants' uses and new technological, medical, economic and social properties. The collection features interviews with geneticists, the head gardener at the Chateau of Versailles, an Indian industrialist and an Australian botanist, among other professionals, as they invite us into their laboratories, on their expeditions to the ends of the earth, or quite simply, around their gardens. At a time when our society is in full reflection on its relationship to biodiversity, we travel the world to discover in what way these plants have become our partners in life.

VOLCANIC PLANET
Volcanoes are the most extreme, dramatic, and explosive forces of nature on our planet. Volcanoes have produced many of the most valuable minerals - and most of the arable soil on earth. Every day, they are exploding around the world. When the Yellowstone Super Volcano blows (and it is now 48,000 years overdue to do so), it will destroy most of life on North America. Award-winning filmmaker Peter Rowe has climbed and filmed 19 volcanoes, and tells the story of them, the adventures of climbing them, the people who live beside them, and the scientists who risk their lives to study them, in "Volcanic Planet". He also convinces his climbing partner George Kourounis to get married (!?) on the exploding lip of one of them. Filmed in Congo, Iceland, Italy, Vanuatu, Hawaii, Tonga, Turkey, Guatemala, New Zealand, Costa Rica and under the Pacific Ocean, "Volcanic Planet" is a fast-paced high-voltage tour of the world’s most active smoking mountains.
AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 ISLANDS
FOLLOWING THE NOBLE ECHO OF THE SEA. In every sea, a shell, in every shell, a voice and a hypnotic recall. This is the "common thread" that accompanies us on our trip through the world’s hemispheres. We meet these sea shells in Senegal, on Joal Fadiouth, an island entirely made up of small white shells, which are essential for the economy of this small African Island. Even in the Caribbean characterized by the Turks and Caicos huge Conch shells, with their delicious fruits used in excellent dishes. Polynesia, instead, is the realm of oysters, that contain unique jewels: the black pearls, famous all over the world. Finally in Mare nostrum, at Sant’Antioco, we meet the most noble shells of all: Pinna nobilis, unique sea shells, especially as you can extract a fine silk like filament called "byssus" from it. It is a textile filament known and used in ancient times, and the only woman who is able to spin it now, lives at Sant’Antioco. She’s an artisan-artist that our cameras manage to capture quite completely.
