MOCHI (NARA, JAPAN). The traditional ceremony of making mochi involves using a large mallet and mortar. One person will pound the hot glutinous rice in a lightning fast and steady rhythm, while another quickly darts his hand into the mortar to wet and turn the rice paste. In Nara, Japan, one particular mochi shop is famous for its high-speed mochi pounding technique. They have appeared in various Japanese TV programmes, and crowned champion of high-speed mochitsuki numerous times. Justin Onishi is Japanese American and currently teaches English in Kobe. Having spent most of his life in Hawaii, his return to the motherland has piqued his interest in his culture and in particular the art of mochi making. Although a keen student of martial arts, Justin may have underestimated the task at hand. Can he achieve kungfu standards of mochi pounding in under 3 days and keep his fingers intact?

SERGIU POPA ENSEMBLE. Sergiu Popa is an acoustic quintet from Montreal, directed by accordionist Tzigane (Roma) Sergiu Popa. The group offers its own musical arrangements of Eastern Europe traditional and composed pieces; they incorporate and mix the rhythms, instruments and typical harmonies from Latin, Caribbean, Jazz and Oriental styles. Each piece played by the ensemble gives place to improvisation, especially for Sergiu Popa, a virtuoso whose brilliant works are often spontaneous. The Ensemble also presents a more semi-classical repertoire, including arranged folk songs from Russia and Moldova in collaboration with Moldavian vocalist Marina Negruta.

A JOURNEY TO INFINITY - PART 3 (PATAGONIA). The third part of our expedition on board of our ship, that has taken us from Punta Arenas in Chile, takes us now to Ushuaia in Argentina, to cross the glaciers in Tierra del Fuego passing along the Straits of Magellan. As we sail we visit the fjords of the Beagle channel along side the glaciers of the Cordillera Darwin. To cross Glacier Avenue is an unforgettable experience; icy winds and high seas accompany us as we sail toward the legendary Cape Horn, a destination that all fearless sailors want to see, as they follow the route set by Sir Francis Drake so as to pit their wits and challenge these waters to try to "round the Horn". As we pass to observe the wild nature in the Magellan forest of Baia Wulaia, our expedition comes to an end at Ushuaia, the southernmost city of the planet and it is for this reason it is called the city at the end of the world.
AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 ISLANDS
CHAMPION OF BIODIVERSITY. On Providenciales Island, the entrance to the Turks & Caicos archipelago, we begin our journey by discovering a farm where they grow the biggest sea shell’s in the world. The objective of the Conch Farm is to save and protect from extinction the Strombus gigas, the most famous pink sea-shell in the Caribbean, the Queen Conch. The entire process of the life of this sea-shell is very interesting, from birth to its adult state, which we discover both in and out of the water. This sea-shell is only one of the bio-wonders of this archipelago: We discover more wonders on North Caicos in the company of the most famous naturalist of the island. With him we discover the world’s smallest Boa, a reptile native to this island, and also the land caves that were once filled by the sea.

THE ANDES CROSSING. They manage to fly over the first hills of the Chilean mountain range, but fail and fall in a small town and must be rescued. Next to the pilot Cristian Millas we will fly in the Chilean precordillera, aboard a modern hot air balloon.

GUYANA. Bordering Suriname and Brazil, Guyana is France’s biggest region. With its surface being 96% covered by an impenetrable jungle, it is the location of much trafficking. While the police work to dismantle the prominent drug trafficking networks, the environmental police track down poachers, whose activity is particularly intense. Their searches bring them in daily contact with the Garimpeiros, illegal Brazilian immigrants who work at gold panning sites, in contradiction with the law. Gold trafficking therefore doubles up as weapons trafficking and prostitution.
