Philippe takes us on an epic adventure around the Human Habitat and sets the tone for the journey. HAINAN, CHINA. Discovering some the world’s hidden treasures by revealing the hidden face of life and the inhabitants of the islands. Island folk are generally proud of their insularity and their distinct sense of identity. A rich cocktail of history, customs, cuisine and economic resources distinguishes the island people and the nature and beaches that surround them. Our documentaries explore the varied and often little known lifestyles and peculiarities on the twenty featured islands. The approach so effectively used during our series on beaches and coastal areas, is here recreated, each program a mix of stunning visuals and interviews, which together highlight the exotic and uncommon events of daily life with a backdrop of spectacular island scenery. The aim of this unique series is as always to surprise, amuse and inform the viewer.
INDIA'S JUNGLE BOOK HOSPITAL
In the densely populated India, living space for wild animals is getting short. Around the country land is being cultivated and houses are constructed. India's only scientifically run rehabilitation center offers shelter for wild animals. Here veterinarians Dr. Phulmoni Gogi and Dr. Prasanta Boro take care of ill and injured animals, which got in conflict with civilization and would have hardly survived on their own: a feverish buffalo, a dozen orphaned elephants and a young rhinoceros. With a lot of dedication and patience, the doctors aim is to slowly raise the awareness of the people to save the wild animals.

THACKRAY MEDICAL MUSEUM. Derek Acorah's The Past Hunters investigate Thackray Medical Museum, believed to one of Leeds most haunted buildings. Workers claim to have witnessed constant paranormal activity in the museum and one claim is that two Victorian ghosts are trapped inside of the location.

MOZAMBIQUE, THE NEW WAVE. Coastlines and seafronts are the gateways to the oceans, a source of many and varied natural resources. It’s easy to understand why half of the world’s population lives along or near the coast. And it’s one explanation for the fascinating racial mix that is often found on coasts. EP. 05. Snow is a fascinating world of crystals that animals, plants, and humans have had to adapt to, in order to benefit from its best and survive its worst attributes. Some communities live with Tornadoes by building homes with survival features and rather than get out of their paths, they rely on warning systems and classifications. And behind all great weather events is Wind, find out how and why it can change from a gentle breeze into a devastating gale force and where does it go? Nature’s force can be mystical and puzzling and the Sunshower has been the subject of myths and legends and superstitions, but it does have a scientific explanation.
WONDER
NATURE'S GAMES. Seg 1 Carrion flowers. Carrion flowers are the unorthodox perception of flowers for they are rare, big, and very unpleasant. Other terms are stink flowers and corpse flowers. The biggest flower in the world, rafflesia arnoldii, is a carrion flower. These flowers are difficult to find and reproduce and could breed through cross-pollination by attracting flies and dung beetles. Seg 2 Aposematism. Aposematism is a form of signalling that enables protection for both preys and predators by giving signs of poison and danger through showing off the bright colors and patterns on their epidermal layers that become associated with inedibility. Some species have developed mimicry based on aposematism in order to avail the protection aposematic colors give. Seg 3 Cuckoo Misdirection. Cuckoo misdirection demonstrates the mimicking abilities of a female cuckoo in order to find host nests to hatch her eggs. The female mimics a cry of a predator bird in order to frighten the hosts, leaving them vulnerable, thus the cuckoo can seize the chance to drop her egg on a host nest. Seg 4 Pheromones. Animal pheromones are the chemicals secreted and released by different species to communicate with other organisms. There are various types serving different purposes, ranging from reproduction, to trailing, to alarms. Some pheromones are also specific to one species of animals. Seg 5 Deimatic Behavior. Deimatic behavior is another type of defensive behavior in animals that also involves mimicry. It’s the opposite of aposematism because while aposematism works by blatantly showing or signalling its danger or unpalatability, deimatic behavior relies on the element of surprise to startle predators in order for species to flee to safety.
FORT MCMURRAY, LA RUEE VERS L'OR NOIR
A few years ago, the Canadian city of Fort McMurray was nothing more than a sleepy little village. Nowadays, it is one of the largest oil reserve in the world and 100 000 people live and work there. Fort McMurray seems to be one of the most promising places in the world. Workers here earn more than double those in the rest of Canada. But since there are always 2 sides to every coin, there is one big drawback: huge-scale devastation of nature goes hand-in-hand with the oil production.
WHAT IN THE WORLD - (3)
Timber is one of this country’s biggest natural resources and the source of great potential wealth. Hence the existence of wholesale illegal logging, irrespective of the consequences to the local environment. This has led concerned parties to set up the Olancho Environmental Movement. This organization has mobilized to protect these forests, at some risk to its members, like Rene Gradiz, whose testimony is disturbing in the extreme.
WHAT IN THE WORLD - (4)
Indris Seid Yimer and Emyet Assen Woraki’s lives have been utterly transformed in the last thirty years. In 1984, they, their families and their community were engulfed in famine and devastation, a famine memorably described by BBC journalist Michael Buerk as “the closest thing to hell on Earth”. Set in the Wollo area, the epicentre of the 1984 famine, the film tells their story. Other contributions featured are from people like entrepreneur Samuel Alemu and financier Ermyas Amelga. It also showcases the hauntingly beautiful UNESCO World Heritage site in Lalibela.

In former times, 4.000 elephants and their Mahouts used to work in Thailand's forestry but nowadays, they are no longer welcome in Bangkok. Since then, at the end of the 1980s, when the government stopped deforestation, they have been unemployed. More and more elephant guides have moved to the big cities. For 4 years now, the government has been trying to ban them from the cities, as they are a safety risk for street traffic. Non Yamdee lives with his elephant Poon Thap in the outer districts of Bangkok but doesn't want to be caught by the police and resettled. He has heard about a new elephant camp in the south – and that is where he intends to go.

Slab City has neither mayor nor police station, doctor or stores. No electricity, gas or running water. In exchange, everyone can live the way they want: adventurous seniors who travel here every winter in their luxury motor home, old hippies or penniless musicians. Even the 8-member Neill family was driven here - by the economic crisis and homelessness.

WILD AUSTRALIA WITH RAY MEARS
EP. 06. In this episode, Ray explores the Red Centre of the country and shows that the Australian desert is filled with life for those who know where to find water.He arrives in the Red Centre by chopper as he flies over the Uluru monolith or Ayres Rock. For his first stop, he goes to a red kangaroo sanctuary where he cuddles a joey, meets their carer Brolga and gets close to the usually wary adult red kangaroos. He pursues his journey deeper in the desert to meet a local aboriginal Sammy Wilson. They go to a traditional waterhole and chat over a camp fire about Sammy’s ancestral knowledge of the land. Ray spends the night out under the stars before driving more inland to rocky areas where water collects. There Ray comes face to face with a wild kangaroo and rock wallabies. He then follows tracks along a dry river bed that lead him to Australia’s wild dog: a dingo.
THE SOLOMON TREASURES
The discovery in Jerusalem in 2007 of a tomb said to belong to the family of Jesus of Nazareth is just the latest in a long line of extraordinary finds which have recently come to light in the Holy Land. But not all these finds are quite what they seem. Both a stone tablet said to come from the Temple of Solomon, and an ossuary apparently belonging to the brother of Jesus, have been declared fakes. The official investigation then uncovered dozens of other fakes, and attention eventually focussed on one of the most revered objects in Israel: the ivory pomegranate. This artefact has been in the Israel Museum for nearly twenty years. Like the stone tablet, it too was linked to the Temple of Solomon – and astonishingly it too, investigators concluded, was fake. As forensic scientists now turn their attention to the ossuaries from the ‘Jesus family tomb’, Israeli archaeologists are left fearing that history and science is being repeatedly distorted, and they face a challenge to separate fact from fiction.

MASAI MARA: WHERE LION IS KING. In this first of a two-parter on the Mara, we follow the migration in anticipation of the famous river crossings. We find all three big cats and hyena waiting for their chance to get their share of the migrants. During migration, the animal numbers are staggering.

THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY. Derek Acorah’s The Past Hunters travel to Hull to investigate ghostly goings on inside of a former chocolate factory. The investigation turns out to be no picnic, as the ghosts haunting make direct contact with the team.

SOKOTRA, ENDANGERED TREASURE ISLAND
Sokotra, an island off the Horn of Africa, has been a Unesco world heritage site since 2008, but the strict rules that once enabled the Beduoins to protect their biodiversity are now being relaxed. 360° GEO follows in the footsteps of a Yemeni goatherd on the island.
