CREATIVE KILLERS
EP. 03. Peppered across Africa are a few iconic locations that are renowned for killing action. Arenas bathed in a history of blood, places where Africa’s icons have hunted successfully for generations. Predators here develop unique and clever ways to hunt. But the circumstances aren’t the driving factor in this story. Sometimes these predators look for the perfect patch of ground to kill, a small area of long grass, or a single path that leads to the perfect ambush. How do they amplify their age-old skills by using the lie of the land? The fastest mammal on the planet, Cheetah’s don’t only use speed to kill. They use look out points to scan for weak prey and a baby fawn as lure to get its mother to come closer. Africa’s heavy weight the Lion is twice the weight and half the speed of the Cheetah. They need cover to hunt down their prey, so they stake out ambush points in Gullies, Marshland and Forest, lying in wait for their prey the wildebeest. We follow three characters through the Ndutu rainy season, starting with the arrival of the annual wildebeest migration, through to the wildebeest calves growing up and continuing their journey to the north-west. The film looks at how our characters use the environment and features of the landscape to their advantage. Reflecting on how they have learnt this from previous generations and will pass onto the next.
THE RESCUE DOGS OF LAKE GARDA
17 year old Ester and her dog Mia have big plans: saving lives at Lake Garda. In the north of Italy swimming rescue dogs are on duty at several lakes and the Mediterranean Sea. After traffic accidents, drowning is worldwide the second most common cause of death by accident. But a rescue is always difficult as the rescuer itself can be in danger. Like Mia, the Italian rescue dogs are mostly Newfoundland's- dogs who love the water and with a weight of at least 66 pounds (30 Kilo?), are able to pull people out of the water. For 3 years the dog- owners and their animals are trained to save lives. But the biggest challenge for Ester waits at the end: a jump out of a helicopter.

A YEAR IN THE WILD
EP.5. The middle of the year sees the Okavango Delta’s channels flooded and waterholes filled to the brim, even though the rains already stopped around April. At 15.000km2 the Okavango Delta is the world’s largest inland delta with massive expanses of wetlands, but it can’t compete with the size of Brazil’s Pantanal region. This is a wetland that sprawls over an area of at least 140.000km2, with 80% of its floodplains submerged during the rainy season. Coral reefs, too, support an extraordinarily colourful diversity of life, despite their home in nutrient-poor tropical waters. All too often, the inhabitants of neighbouring homes pick fights with each other over territory, food or mating rights. Coastal marsh crabs in the Seychelles are no exception, busily collecting white flowers and defending their prizes against the attentions of other crabs. Day-to-day survival is always hard work in the natural world, and clashes with neighbours are common. At this time of year, the buffalo herds of the Okavango Delta are in prime condition, following the months of plenty after the rainy season. For the Xakanaxa lion pride, they are the preferred prey item, and they are often found hard on the heels of the buffalo. Just as the individual lions in a single pride join forces to ensure the survival of the pride’s members, leafcutter ants also work together for the greater good of their colony. Their colonies are huge, numbering 3 to 8 million ants in a single nest, which can measure 15 metres across and 5 metres deep. Such large colonies require a lot of food, and supplying their precious fungus with enough plant material to grow means that within the tropical forests of South America, leaf cutter ants collectively consume almost 20% of the annual vegetation growth, making them the dominant herbivore around. For ragged-tooth sharks, it is time to congregate at the Aliwal Shoal off South Africa’s coastline. Up to 50 ragged-tooth sharks can be seen bunched together in underwater caves and under ledges, showing tell-tale signs of scars and aggressive altercations that indicate their mating season has started.

BIG FIVE CHALLENGE
LION DAY. Today’s mission is to track and locate lion, get within 50 meters on foot or vehicle and stay in that range for 10 minutes to qualify. The best lion photograph of the day will be judged by wildlife photographer, Kimi Stewart. Barrel the guide for Devil and Prada, creates much needed humour and team spirit as he attaches Karina’s blonde hair extensions to his head! The morning session proves to be very valuable for the lagging Devil and Prada team, as they locate a big lion pride including cubs for additional bonus points. A fishing task is added to up the ante and Jesse, (from the Devil and Prada team) begins by eating an earth worm for extra luck! Michael from team terminator miraculously manages to catch a fish in the shallows with his hands! After much humour and antics, it’s back to the afternoon lion session and the Invincibles strike by also locating a lion pride. Team terminator walk for miles as they track down lion spoor but are unfortunate to catch up to the pride before the cut off time. They do however bump into 2 black rhino on the way and enjoy the moment. Kimi has only 2 photographs to judge tonight and the leaderboard table does a complete turn!

Millions of sea birds nest on the Peruvian coastline. Their excrement - guano - is highly valuable, and is exported as fertilizer all over the world. Guano farming is done manually, in the same way it was done during the period of the Incas. Only the strongest of men can endure the harsh work, as well as the long months of isolation on the uninhabited islands. The stench of the excrement is difficult to bear, and the acidic dust burns the lungs. 360° - GEO followed the workers who collect the guano. A documentary on the islands of suffering.

CORNWALL'S NARCISSUS ISLAND
360°GEO - Report spends the days in the run up to Easter on a flower farm. We also dive with playful grey seals in the Atlantic Ocean and reveal more than just the secrets of flower-growing.At the tip of the world - Landsend in Cornwall - are the Isles of Scilly. About 2,000 people live on these islands located at the entrance to the English Channel. Some of the locals are fishermen but their main activity is flower farming.The nearby Gulf Stream provides the islands with a year-round mild climate and as a result, millions of flowers are grown along the Atlantic Coast. Churchtown Farm specializes in Narcissi, and so it the pressure is on in the run up to Easter.
RIVER KING
Some parts of Africa have not been explored by even the most adventurous anglers. Wars, upheavals and uncertainties have made large areas of the Nile Basin in particular too challenging and dangerous to visit. Wim Seffelaar is a teacher in daily life, but a keen angler whenever he has the chance. Over the decades he has explored some of the remotest rivers of Africa. Now he is on a quest to catch one of the most iconic and elusive of all African river fish – the legendary Nile perch. They grow to enormous proportions on a stretch of river bordering South Sudan – an area normally off limits to tourists, but with the help of local friends, Wim manages to secure the permits to allow him into this troubled area. As he follows the river searching for likely locations, he immerses himself in the tribal life along the waterways. Everyone seems to be fishing here, albeit each with their own methods. Not only the many kingfishers, pelicans and crocodiles, but also the people, young and old. What may be sport to the angler is the livelihood of many here. If you don’t catch something, you and your family go hungry. Child hunters convince him to follow them to their inland lake and show off their skill at catching a variety of fish, but the most remarkable local fishing tactics take place on dry soil. During the dry season, fish survive by burrowing themselves in the mud and staying dormant until the rains form new rivers. The locations of these buried fish or ‘mudfish’ can be given away by subtle movements of the ground. A man whose feet can detect that faint movement above ground can spear the fish through the soil, dig it out and slowly hook it free from the earth. As he continues his way upstream, enormous bush fires stand in his way, the temperature rises to unbearable heights and the water level drops. The turning point in his expedition comes when he gets help from a former rebel who has fought in the area and knows the river like the back of his hand. With the help of his new friend he moves further afield, onwards to deeper water, indicated by the presence of large crocodiles. Here lies the promise of the giant. After landing a few huge tigerfish, Wim eventually hooks into a goliath that turns out to be no less than 113 kg, one of the largest Nile perches ever caught on a rod and fishing line.

RACE OF LIFE
EP. 11. Almost all animals living in the sea are predators - from small fish to great white sharks and starfish to giant squid. Their bodies have been designed and built to capture prey and avoid becoming prey themselves. Raiders of the Underwater Universe have evolved to become among the more efficient war machines of our planet. There are "predators lurking" as stone fish, cleverly disguising themselves to wait for unsuspecting prey which wander too close. In an episode that illustrates the Race of Life in an underwater world of dangerous predators with razor-sharp teeth, we will see sharks, barracuda and moray eels go about their grisly business. Underwater predators have adapted some fairly extreme measures to hunt and to survive. The fish of the reef need to be fast to escape the barracuda, with its lightning speed and pincushion teeth. And stay on the alert when they swim near the lairs of the moray eel, a large and lethal creature of perhaps surprising grace and beauty. They may be ambushed by the also elegant - but deadly – lionfish. The knitting needle spines of the lionfish are capable of injecting deadly venom. Or if equally unlucky, prey can be sucked into the huge mouth of a stonefish. With so many hungry mouths to feed, it’s a jungle down there.
CHEETAHS OF THE DEEP
The Canary Islands are sheltered by a mild climate, protected from any extremes of weather. But high up on the towering mountains, the conditions can turn treacherous. In winter, water is released by high altitude storms and fertilized by nutrients washed from the soil. As this drains into the sea the soupy waters around the islands attract a huge variety of life, draw in in from the vast Atlantic Ocean. Many whale and dolphin species congregate in these waters, but above all Short-finned pilot whales are found here in the vast numbers.Isora is the leader and matriarch of one of the largest resident pilot whale pods between Tenerife and La Gomera and we document her activities over a one year period. Several females and their offspring form the hard-core of this close-knit society where all the main family members are related to the mother. Males in the pod also play a role, but not in reproduction, as they are blood relatives. With their vow of chastity, they ensure the protection of newborns and juveniles – a long-term investment which is crucial for pod survival.Physical contact is important for the whales and the film reveals moving and rarely-seen interaction between the older pod members and the new arrivals. But this carefree innocence is undermined by harrowing footage of the effect plastic waste is having on the whales and other species. Large squid are the pilot whales’ preferred food source and the best feeding grounds lie a thousand metres deep. But they are masters of deep diving and are involved in titanic battles with the squid on daily basis.As the mothers give birth we examine the close bonds between the new arrivals and the pod, and how the whales deal with the tragic death of one of the calves.This film also looks at other whale and dolphin species which frequent the area, including the rarely seen Risso’s dolphin, Brydes Whales and Atlantic Spotted Dolphins. Green sea turtles also frequent the area, attracted by the rich-sea grass beds which surround the islands.Filmed in stunning HD, this film delivers a comprehensive portrait of a unique and protected underwater haven, one of Europe’s last frontiers before the mysterious deep Atlantic takes hold.
DIAMOND RIVER HUNTERS
JOURNEY BACK. Peter and his team return to Lesotho once more to pursue their dreams of finding big diamonds. The rainy season is supposed to be over but they have to make their way down the dangerous mountain roads during a violent hailstorm. They setup the mining operation again after a 3 month break, but the machinery is rusted and they battle to get the TLB running. To combat the technical problems they had last time, a new team member has been recruited: Alan, a pump specialist. They have also brought up a bigger CAT earthmover and a Hopper has been specially constructed to turn over more ground. They have invested heavily in new machinery to try and increase productivity, but still face daily technical problems. The investors all have concerns about Gary, who is looking extremely thin and haggard after the break. They begin to suspect he may have a drug problem. The new CAT is delivered to the mining site, but it breaks down on the first day. Mining resumes once Kim and Alan get the pumps up and running, and the CAT is repaired by Warren. The rivers rise after heavy rains and the team are unable to cross the first river. The CAT becomes stuck trying to get up the riverbank. They try to dig their way out, but it doesn’t work and the CAT becomes trapped in the river. A site for the hopper is found and it is a huge combined effort to get it assembled. As they complete the task, they are hit by a huge storm and a flash flood tears through the mining site. The miners scramble to save the machinery from being swept away by the rising water. Rob and Peter confront Gary about his work ethic and drug use. At first Gary denies this, but then admits that he has been using drugs. He is not in good shape and claims to be sick but Rob is convinced that his drug problem is keeping him from work. He is not aware that a decision has already been made to fire him. Warren takes it upon himself to break the bad news to Gary. He leaves after an emotional farewell with Warren. The inlet hose is fitted to the hopper and the team are optimistic about its ability to move more ground once it is operational. Peter has some luck at the sorting table and finds a small, but valuable diamond.

Assassination II, portrays the murder of Venustiano Carranza, Francisco Villa and Alvaro Obregon, occurred during the last years of the Mexican Revolution. Assassination II is a format that blends the past with the present; historical reconstruction, structured by the questions Who, how and why it will unveil each of the questions surrounding the details of each of the deaths of these important figures in Mexican history. Assassination II , portrays from its unknown side, the personality of the victims, the murderers, and also the personality of the intellectual murderers of each case. The program develops the leadership of historian Pedro Salmerón, in each case, and with a specialist historian that retrace the different lines of research that were taken just after the events, and secret plots hatched to that truth comes to light, while we'll find out the true events revealed after several years of research. With this format, viewers will witness the truths hitherto undisclosed Mexican history.

NEPAL: KATHMANDU AND CHITWAN NATIONAL PARK. Just north of India is a land steeped in mystery—Nepal. Bill tours the city of Kathmandu, visits the World Heritage temple complexes, and walks along the city streets, where ancient and modern vie for space. We fly around Mount Everest, arguably the world’s most famous mountain, before heading into Chitwan National Park. In Chitwan, Bill searches for tigers from the back of an elephant and observes the myriad of wildlife that call the park home.
JOURNEYS IN INDIA
TAMIL NADU: CHENNAI, PONDICHERRY AND MORE. Chennai, formerly known as Madras, can trace its roots back to a tiny fishing village. Bill explores the city’s growth under the British East India Company, with visits to Fort St. George and the Fort Museum. We then travel to the nearby Sao Tome Basilica, the church and burial site of St. Thomas the Apostle. In Pondicherry, French influences can still be felt in the tree-lined streets, colonial mansions and cafés. Its beautiful setting on the Bay of Bengal makes Pondicherry a delightful place to spend the day. We also visit the ancient port city of Mahabalipuram, where the landscape is dominated by carved-stone architecture. The final highlight of our tour is the Descent of Ganga, which is the world’s largest bas-relief carving.
