Kamilya Jubran and Sarah Murcia at Au Fil Des Voix Festival
Kamilya Jubran (voice and oud); Sarah Murcia (double bass); After several collaborations over the years, Palestinian singer/oud player Kamilya Jubran and French bass player Sarah Murcia join their multifaceted talents in a new project entitled 'Nhaoul' ('Loom' in Arabic). A subtle dialogue between strings and poetry, leading to a common discourse, ideally suited to Kamilya's moving voice. Sarah is familiar with the quarter tones in oriental music while Kamilya is totally at home with the most complex rhythmical structures. On stage, they are accompanied by a string trio (cello, viola and violin) adding a sophisticated rhythmical element. The choice of texts and songs is equally interesting and includes Bedouin poetry from the Sinai and Negev deserts, poems by contemporay Arab writers (Hassan Najmi, Salman Masalha) and a magnificent song by the master of popular Egyption music from the beginning of the century, Sayed Darwich, one of Kamilya's main references. Kamilya and Sarah long-established musical friendship brings us nothing but delight. Recorded at 'Au Fil des Voix' in 2013 - Directed by Giuseppe De Vecchi - Duration: 56min (56 min)
Salif Keita Acoustic at the Carreau du Temple, Paris
Salif Keita Acoustic at the Carreau du Temple, Paris; The 'Golden voice of Africa' was the first artist to perform at the Carreau du Temple, a 'new' Parisian venue, recently reopened after years of neglect. The inaugural concert, recorded on Friday 25 April 2014, was the perfect alliance of diverse cultures, carried by the high and powerful voice of this adoptive 'griot' - Salif Keita is a direct descendent of the Mali Empire's founder, Soundiata Keita - and a historical landmark, elegantly restored. Glass, cast iron, brick and wood have given a new life to this former market hall, whose Eiffel-style nineteenth century metallic structure is so typically Parisian. A historical venue and an artist who has freed himself from tradition and follows his own path. With; Salif Keita, lyrics; Aminata Danté et Bah Kouyaté, lyrics; Mamadou Diabaté, Kora; Souleymane Kouyaté, N'goni; Guy Nwogang, drums; Ousmane Kouyaté, Guitar; Playlist: Katolon; M'Bamba; Tu vas me manquer (I miss you); Yamore; Saranfino; Namanamani; Mandjoue; kanté; Coucou (Hello); Tekere; Recorded at the Carreau du temple on March 2014; TV idrector, Josselin Carré (56 min)
