Tomasz Stanko Quartet - Skoda Jazz Festival
Title: TOMASZ STANKO QUARTET LIVE AT SKODA JAZZ FESTIVAL; Duration: 60 min; Produced by: LA SEINE TV - Coproduced By: MEZZO; Directed by: Jean-Pierre Zirn; Broadcasting: MEZZO June 25th 10H15 PM; The Club Jazz L'F in Dinant, home town of Adolphe Sax Inventor of the saxophone, is happy to welcome Trumpeter Tomasz Stanko's quartet one of the top artists of the Skoda Jazz Festival notably with pianist Marcin Wasilewski. When in 2001 Tomasz Stanko recorded ' Soul of Things ', the American magazine Stereophile wrote: he has to envy nothing 'Kind of Blue' of Miles Davis. Stanko is one of bigger actors of the jazz in Europe. It is in 1975 when he collaborated for the first time with the label ECM. He recorded magnificent albums since decades. With ' Soul of Things ', he rethought his roots about various levels and let reappear his first influences of Miles Davis and Chet Baker. He was inspired for the opportunity of his first compositions and the musics which had mattered for him, in particular those of Krzysztof Komeda. And for the first time on an album ECM, he surrounded itself wih a Polish group. Indeed, since decade, Stanko worked with a young group. ' He enormously helped me to find my voice ' comment on the pianist Marcin Wasilewski. This combination between the experience of Stanko and the energy of the youth of the trio has proved to be very productive by creating a music at the same time dynamic, lyric, well-balanced and very beautiful. Two years later, ' Suspended Night ' was crowned golden record in Poland. He climbed at the top of Billboard Jazz Charts in the United States (what arrives only very rarely for an European group). On their last record ' Lontano ' which closed their trilogy in 2006, most of the material formed themselves spontaneously and the group has create freely played ballads. Since then, the ways of these four musicians separated to find itself occasionally among which on December 8th, 2012 at Dinant, Adolphe Sax's home town, inventor of the saxophone! Gregoire Maret - Lotos Jazz Festival
Over the course of the past decade, Grégoire Maret has emerged as a?unique and compelling new voice across a wide spectrum of the modern jazz world. That his chosen instrument - the harmonica - is a?relative rarity in the genre is one element in his singular sound, but far?from the whole explanation. After all, the extensive list of heavyhitters?who have enlisted him for their own projects is unparalleled:?Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Cassandra Wilson, and Marcus Miller?are some of his most prominent employers, none of whom have the?patience to employ novelty for novelty's sake. Morten Qvenild: Personal Piano - Oslo Jazz Festival
QVENILD PERSONAL PIANO @ Oslo Jazz Festival 2016; Morten Qvenild, a member of In The Country, who also accompanies Susanna Wallumrod in Susanna & The Magical Orchestra, presents a very personal kind of music. Qvenild drifts away from jazz standards, presenting works performed on his 'HyPer (sonal) Piano', a keyboard augmented with electronics. The Norwegian musician's compositions are varied, and may include his own vocals. He sometimes reduces the accompaniment to a bare minimum, a few melodic touches to support the melancholy of his timbre (Wild Horses). He feels at liberty, for example, to break the continuity of a piece like Kick And Glide, speeding up the tempo and calling on programs to give his piano a psychedelic and futuristic touch - in the company of a distorted guitar - taking us far away from traditional jazz. Record on August 17th 2016 at the Nasjonal Jazzscene Victoria, Oslo (Oslo Jazz Festival); TV director, Jean-François Hugel (75 min)
