Don Quixote, Lost illusion, choreography by Rui Lopes Graça
DON QUIXOTE, LOST ILLUSION; Choreography by Rui Lopes Graça after Marius Petipa - Deanna Blacher (Fadango); Music by Léon Minkus + music from the seventeenth century to the present day; Sets and costumes by Bruno de Lavenere; Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra; Musical direction Myron Romanul; With the Opéra National du Rhin Ballet; Between his dreams of adventure and his nostalgia for the past, Don Quixote's genius lies in his courage, in his noble ardor and audacity. Two choreographers try to capture his duality: in Act One, Rui Lopes Graça, a young Portuguese choreographer, presents a modern version of Don Quixote and explores the more contemporary issues in Cervantes's masterpiece. In Act Two, our singular hero is catapulted into the classical world of Marius Petipa. This bravura piece is not so much a reference to classical ballet, rather an invitation to imagine the future.
