        The Daptone Super Soul Revue featuring Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Charles Bradley and his Extraordinaires, Antibalas, The Sugarman 3 with special guests; If there's a label today in New York that still captures the spirit of vintage soul as defined by the artists of the Apollo Theatre, it has got to be Daptone Records. The label's revue is greatly anticipated for the return of its star Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings with their new album: 'Give the People What They Want' (2013). With their unique mix of rough Rhythm'n'blues, funk and lascivious ballads, Sharon and her eight funkateers revive a mighty and festive style of soul. On stage, Sharon Jones (a native of Alberta, like James Brown) is sensational. Equally at ease with funky train and shing a ling, her smoky voice harks back to the greatest hours at the Apollo. Singer Charles Bradley from Brooklyn is a survivor from the 70's. He recorded his first album ('No Time for Dreaming', on Daptone Rec.) at the age of 62 and is now enjoying success, telling his own story, that of a normal working guy who earned his living as a cook during the week and did James Brown impersonations at the weekend. His magnificent resurrection has now produced a second album, 'Victim of Love'. The proto funk spiced with afrobeat of the Antibalas gang and the chicken style saxophone of Neil Sugarman are further highlights of the revue. (87 min)

        Taj Mahal, a formidable musician, an icon of the blues and of world music, can play over twenty instruments, including guitars and dobros, dulcimer, banjo and harmonica. A figurehead of the 'blues revival' in the mid-60's, Taj Mahal is a prolific composer, a musicologist, an indefatigable explorer of African-American, African, Caribbean, Indian and Hawaiian music. At a recording session in a studio in Georgia, Taj Mahal met griot Toumani Diabaté. Their research into the links between the blues and Mandingue music gave birth to the album 'Kulanjan' (1999). The Mandingue tradition can be heard today in the electrified and modernized ngoni of Bassekou Kouyaté. The musician from Mali is an activist for peace and tolerance in his home country. Bassekou Kouyaté invites the itinerant King of blues, Taj Mahal, for a duet: a magical moment. (53 min)

        LAURENT DE WILDE AND OTISTO 23 'FLY!' INVITE GUILLAUME PERRET LIVE AT LA DYNAMO; With Nico Ticot (video) Xlrproject; Part Two of Laurent de Wilde and Otisto 23's musical experiments. This time, they have transcended themselves. Let us go back to the basic concept: a piano and a computer - Laurent generates sounds on his instrument, with the keyboard of course, but also the strings, felt, wood, metal, anything that can be plucked, scraped and rubbed, producing an infinitely varied sound matter that Otisto processes in real time through his computer, bouncing it back to Laurent, who then responds with new sounds... and this is how the music develops. After the experience of their first album 'PC Pieces', de Wilde et Otisto are meeting again on stage and in the studio. More intuitive, their music now involves more piano and electronics, as in 'Lost' with its long cadence on the piano, meandering through the filters of the machine, and 'B Flat Seven' where a single B Flat generates an extensive technoid epic in seven tableaux. From this encounter, a deeply organic music is born, a dialogue, a conversation which at times solidifies into an incandescent ball of sound or slims down to the most delicate hieroglyphs. An anecdote involves a herd of cows, grazing in the vicinity of the studio where the album was being recorded, to the accompaniment of a colony of flies, who soon invaded the room where the two musicians were working. There ensued a track entitled 'Eau de Mouche n°5', and the realisation that the insects' constant buzzing was influencing their entire repertoire. FLY! invites us to defy gravity, carried aloft by an intimate and precious musical conversation. (75 min)
