She was born in Los Angeles and later moved to Paris. She released her first single, 'Time' (1996), at the age of 16. Her first albums brought her success and fame in France on the soul and pop scene. In addition to her career as a singer and backing vocalist, she also works as a host at Radio Nova and MTV in France. In 2008, she launched her own production company, MadeInChina Productions. In 2009, she released an album called This One's for Dinah (Blue Note France), a tribute to Dinah Washington. Her next album, Crazy Blues, was named by British newspaper The Times as one of the top 100 albums of 2013. At the end of March 2017, she released her long-awaited new album, Nightintales. China co-hosted and sang at the first UNESCO International Jazz Day in Paris, and she also often performs concerts for US UNESCO.
