What is this thing called love ( 5 saxo); 'Bird with Strings' (1949) by Charlie Parker is a unique encounter between the world of jazz and classical music. Some of today's best saxophonists return to this repertoire, with new arrangements by Christophe Del Sasso. For the young producer Norman Granz, the signing of Charlie Parker on the Mercury label was a real success story. For several years the saxophonist had been toying with the idea of seizing the opportunity to record music outside his usual quintet. The project 'Charlie Parker with strings' was therefore for him an old dream that he was to bring to reality in 1949. With an oboe, a few violins, a viola, a cello, a harp, a piano, a double bass and drums, he was to give a new sound to the 1930's classics such as 'Just Friends' or 'April in Paris'. Jazz at the Philharmonie celebrates this superb encounter by bringing together Géraldine Laurent (Grand Prix de l'Académie Charles Cros 2015), Pierrick Pédron (Prix du disque français awarded by the Académie du jazz 2013) and Thomas de Pourquery (Artist of the Year at the Victoires du jazz 2017) on new arrangements by Christophe Dal Sasso. Recorded on January 27, 2019 at Pierre Boulez Hall, Philharmonie de Paris; TV Director, Guiseppe De Vecchi 12.05.2021 (91 min)

Roberto Negro DADADA with Emile Parisien and Michele Rabbia - Europa Jazz
Roberto Negro, piano; Emile Parisien, saxophone; Michéle Rabbia, drums; (Dadada); The pianist and composer Roberto Negro presents his new trio Dadada, with Emile Parisien and Michele Rabbia. With its nocturnal and fantasy themes with imperceptible fluctuations and a certain penchant for surprises, the trio's music is fascinating because of its play on timbres, mysterious tonalities and its use of subtle electronic effects. A miraculously inhabited saxophone.A beautifully detailed piano.A sensually choreographed drum set. When Negro leaves for an excursion without satelite beacons, the musique is filled with stars and poetry.
