      • Chucho Valdés & Archie Shepp, Afro-Cuban Project

It's a real musical fireworks display on July 14: the festive celebration of Afro-Cuban music by Chucho Valdés and Archie Shepp. Master of the piano (the Cuban Mozart according to some) marked by the joint influences of Art Tatum, Bill Evans and McCoy Tyner, Chucho Valdés was in the 1970s the leader of the group Irakere within which he innovated by incorporating Afro-Cuban rhythms sacred bata drums in Cuban popular music. 74 Printemps, always green, superbly lyrical, Archie Shepp initiated this rare encounter. Together, they dream of new astonishments, tinged with scholarly interactions, nuanced emotions and unheard-of sounds. Archie Shepp (saxophone); Chucho Valdés (piano); Carlos Manuel Miyares Hernandez (saxophone); Reinaldo Melián Alvarez (trumpet,); Lázaro Rivero Alarcón (double bass); Yaroldy Abreu Robles (percussions, congas); Dreiser Durruthy Bombalé (voice, tambour Batá); Recorded at the Jazz á Porquerolles festival, 2011; TV director: Franck Cassenti CMU_97843 (54 min)
